Postal codes and ridings
Canada Post draws a postal code around a delivery route or a cluster of buildings and redraws it as routes change. An electoral district is drawn by the Electoral Boundaries Commission and fixed in law until the next redistribution, which is why the riding boundaries changed in 2024. The two are drawn for different jobs, so a rural route or a long street can cross a district line: 67 of the 191 postal code areas in British Columbia put fewer than three quarters of their voters in one riding.
