Motion to adjourn the House

A motion to adjourn the House, which brings the sitting to an end.

Adjourning the House ends the day's sitting. The government uses it to close a sitting or to manage the day's business, and it is one of the dilatory motions: moved without notice or seconder, it can also set aside whatever the House is debating at the time. A recorded division on it decides only whether the sitting ends at that moment, not any bill or other question before the House, which stays on the Order Paper for the next sitting.
