New Resident Health Cost Recovery Act

Charges new residents who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents a yearly health registration fee of $7,500 a person as a condition of medical coverage, as the mover described it on first reading.

The fee is indexed to inflation and applies as a condition of coverage under the Medicare Protection Act until the person becomes a permanent resident or citizen. The money goes into a dedicated account for health services for new residents.
