Economic Stabilization (Tariff Response) Act

Creates powers to remove interprovincial trade barriers, direct government procurement, set tolls on provincial undertakings and modify enactments by regulation.

As introduced the Act had four operating parts. Part 1 lets goods and services that may lawfully be sold in another province be sold in British Columbia despite provincial rules. Part 2 lets cabinet direct how government bodies buy goods and services. Part 3 lets cabinet set tolls, fees and charges on provincial undertakings. Part 4 lets cabinet, by regulation, exempt from or modify requirements in any enactment, for purposes including a foreign jurisdiction's actions, except natural resource permits and Indigenous engagement provisions. The bill passed third reading on May 28, 2025 without Part 4, with its repeal date moved from May 28, 2027 to May 28, 2026, and with new reporting and review sections.
